Attorneys Support Gleaners on Annual Day of Service

On September 29, a team of volunteers from Hoover Hull Turner LLP spent the morning at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana in Indianapolis as part of the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Annual Day of Service held in connection with Rotary Club’s Indy Do Day. Gleaners is an important regional food bank, which collects, manages, and distributes food to hunger relief agencies and schools in a 21-county area. The Hoover Hull Turner team, together with other corporate groups, managed more than 9,000 pounds of food items and more than 15,000 pounds of non-food items for distribution to the community.

Gleaners relies on teams like the one from Hoover Hull Turner to do its daily work. This major distribution operation is run primarily by volunteers, with only a few dozen staff. Since its inception in 1980, Gleaners has distributed over 360 million pounds of food and critical grocery products to over 250 hunger relief agencies serving needy Hoosiers. In addition to food distribution to hunger relief agencies, the organization serves children and seniors through specialty programs such as BackSacks: Weekend Food for Kids, School-Based Pantries, Summer Meals for Kids, and the Senior Hunger Initiative.
